Lincoln Public Schools - District 5
As an active LPS parent of three boys, Mara (Connemara “Mara” Krivohlavek) started her career as a labor and delivery nurse and later served as a medical surgery nurse at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. She credits her experience caring for patients as one of the inspirations to become more involved in the community and to look for other ways to give back. Her passion for education and the wonderful experience her boys have had with their teachers and the support staff in their schools led her to becoming more involved in Lincoln Public Schools.
Mara has been an active volunteer in Lincoln Public Schools for over six years. She currently serves as the president of Maxey Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Organization and the treasurer for Lux Middle School’s booster club. She also volunteers in schools across the city with the White Cane Foundation and Willie’s Underwear Project to ensure all students have access to clean clothes and hygiene products regardless of their household income. Mara also serves as the president of the Lancaster County Medical Alliance.
Mara lives in Lincoln with her husband, Jeff, and her three boys, Henry, Joe and Sam, and their goldendoodle Sherry.

Our schools should be preparing our students for success. Mara will advocate for policies to improve student academic outcomes and to address behavioral issues so that every student is prepared for life after LPS.
Mara joined the PTO because she knows our students do best when parents get involved. Mara will be an advocate for parents who want to get involved in their schools and help them navigate this process. She will also advocate for more transparent communication with parents from the board.
As the body which sets the budget for LPS, Mara believes the board should be passing a fiscally responsible budget which prioritizes the needs of our children. She will prioritize investments in high-quality teachers, extracurriculars, and mental health resources while fighting to keep costs down for families.
